7 Home Deep Cleaning Tips

Spring is here. This means it’s time to start the cleaning frenzy that seems to happen every year around this time. But this time, we at Vacation Angels have some tips to ensure your home deep cleaning experience is effective and efficient.

1. Blinds can be quickly cleaned with an old sock

Grab a tube sock and dip it in a little bit of a vinegar-water mixture (mixed one part to one part). Pop the sock on your hand, and wipe back and forth on the blinds, then reverse the direction and repeat.

2. Don’t forget your mattress and bedding accessories

It can be assumed that your sheets, blankets and pillowcases are washed on the regular. But what about your bed skirt? What about your duvet? Did you know that your mattress can be “washed” as well? Use a vacuum nozzle to suck up the dirt, and then go over the mattress surfaces with a handheld upholstery cleaner for a solid addition for your home deep cleaning.

3. A handy trick for dust removal from lampshades

Have a buildup of dust on your lampshades? If your shades are dark in color or somewhat translucent, this can look relatively off-putting. If you’ve tried using a dust cloth, you know that it doesn’t do the trick. Want to know what does? Roll a lint roller over the shades for immediate positive results.

4. Keep an eye on your kitchen cabinetry

Do you have white kitchen cabinets? If so, you know that they show every bit of bacon grease, dirt, sauce splatters, and spray oil. Take a dish washing brush or sponge, some warm soap and water, and agitate the cabinets to breathe some new life into your kitchen and leave things sparkling.

5. Sink drains and garbage disposals

Kitchen sinks are notoriously nasty. Raw chicken goes in there, as does basically all the food waste that the trash can doesn’t catch. Take a cup of baking soda and two cups of vinegar. Toss it in the sink/disposal drain, and let it sit. Boil some water, and a few minutes later pour it down while running the disposal. This needs to be an inclusion to any home deep cleaning routine.

6. Give your fridge some scrubbing love

Take a damp cloth and sprinkle it with some baking soda. Scrub off dirty spots and stains from the front of your refrigerator. Then open the drawers and get the nooks and crannies. Clean the inside by taking out the food and shelves. Wash the shelves in your sink, and scrub down the empty fridge before putting everything back. Good as the day you bought it!

7. The oven is one of the most overlooked items to clean

While true that some ovens are self-cleaning, they still need some tender loving care from time to time. Oven buildup gets baked on, and baked on more, and baked on some more. Here is a magic mixture to take things to the next level: 5 teaspoons vinegar, 4 teaspoons baking soda, a small bit of dish soap. Scrub, let it sit for three hours, wipe it off, and you’re good to go.
